The Best Netflix Shows To Binge This Summer

Lets not pretend, we all love Netflix. And we all love a good pyjama day where we binge our favourite shows and films whilst scrolling through Instagram and seeing how everyone else is actually doing something with their time! Well I propose that an occasional binge day can be just as much fun as long as you have the right shows!  So here we have compiled a list of our favourite Netflix shows and movies for you to binge this summer!!

Stranger Things is a curious little sci-fi drama thriller following the story of the town Hawkins in Indiana, who are desperately trying to investigate the disappearance of a young boy amongst government conspiracies and the sudden appearance of a girl with unexplainable special abilities.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, stars a young Will Smith from West Philadelphia, born and raised, on a playground is where he spent most of his days. Chilling out…… you get where this is going (and if you don’t – you will!) Young Will is sent to live with his Aunt, Uncle and three cousins in Bel-Air in order to get a good education and have better opportunities. However the affluent Banks family find their lives turned upside down when the street wise youth brings a new vibe to the household.

Anne with an ‘E’ is an attempt to reimagine the classic tale ‘Anne of Green Gables” and personally I’m not quite sure how I feel about it. I think as a stand alone show it is very good but I will always hold the original films and books in my heart and therefore I don’t think any performance could have convinced me that these new actors are the characters I had grown up loving. More than anything the series just wanted me to go back and watch the 1985 classic! The show follows the story of Anne Shirley, an orphan, who seeks love, acceptance and to know her place in the world. She is adopted by two unmarried siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, and has to adjust to a new way of life.

If you are anything like me, you will have devoured these books and thoroughly enjoyed this quaint take on the infamous series. A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the tale of the three Baudelaire children; Violet, Klaus and Sunny, after the tragic death of their parents in a mysterious fire. They are taken in by their distant relative Count Olaf, who has sinister motives for looking after them, namely their late parents great fortune. This series is definitely suited to a particular taste but if you’re a fan of the book set or 2004 movie then you’ll definitely enjoy this peculiar but sorrowful story.

Designated Survivor is an action packed thriller series that tells the story of the aftermath of a terrorist attack on the US Government. The entire government bar a few people is wiped out and Tom Kirkman the ‘Designated Survivor’ is given the top job as President of The United States. Overnight the world is turned upside down and the whole nation has to come together and trust in their new, virtually unknown, President. My family and I are currently watching this series together and it has been full of unexpected twists and turns. We are LOVING it and can’t wait to see what will happen in season 2.

Gilmore Girls is a sweeping set-up of not just the show’s two main characters, coffee-loving 32-year-old inn manager Lorelai Gilmore and her bookworm 16-year-old daughter Rory , but their entire town of Stars Hollow, their detailed family relationships and the show’s distinctive quick-fire humour. The endearing story never fails to cheer me up on a rainy day or just when I’m not feeling myself. As a 16 year old, I loved watching the cast grow up and go through things that every girl goes through in her life. Lorelai and Rory are the like big sisters I never had.

In Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Detective Jake Peralta, a talented and carefree cop with the best arrest record, has never had to follow the rules too closely or work very hard. That changes when Ray Holt, a man with a lot to prove, becomes the new commanding officer of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct. This show is a great lighthearted comedy that boasts a great cast including Chelsea Peretti, Terry Crews, Andy Samburg and Melissa Fumero. Definitely a favourite in my household!

Sherlock (series 4)

A modernised series of adaptations of the Sherlock Holmes novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. John Watson, an army doctor, is wounded in Afghanistan and invalided out of the Army. Back in London his search for a place to stay leads him to share a flat with Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant but eccentric private detective. Together they solve baffling, and often bizarre, murder mysteries. This series is AMAZING and i loved watching it, trying to solve the case before they did (I never succeeded though!) and would 100% recommend to everyone if you love a good mystery combined with great humour.

And that’s all I have for today! Although I’m sure there are hundreds of other great shows to watch, I’m not sure if that’s how I want to spend my entire summer haha! Let us know in the comments if you have seen any of these shows, your thoughts on them, and any other films or series you have binged!

Have a fab summer!
